Internal Link Building: Most Underrated On-page SEO Techniques
What is Internal Link Building?
Let’s assume you have two blog post named “A” and “B.”
Both are related to SEO.
If you insert Blog B URL somewhere in your Bog A as you find it relevant, then it’s called internal link building.
As per Brian Dean an SEO expert, use maximum 2 to 3 Internal links in a Post.
What are the benefits of the Internal Link Building?
It is another way to through which Search Engine know about your other pages- When Google Spider crawls your page, they also follow the links mentioned in your page. It is an excellent way to tell search engines about your undiscovered pages.
Highlight your most important pages:- You must have a few pages which are more crucial than other pages. So you can pinpoint the most important pages giving multiple internal links.
Increases user Spend time on your website:- It helps to decrease the bounce rate as you keep your users inside your website but on different pages.
What are the Best Practices for building Internal link?
Your Anchor Text Should be keyword rich–Google recommends that you should use keywords in the Anchor Text. this is good On-page SEO techniques, but you must avoid unnecessary keywords-stuffed or lengthy Anchor text only for search engine.
We must not use same Anchor text for two different pages–It will confuse Google, hence never use it, otherwise, your site will be penalized with a low ranking.
Do not the unnecessary to use the internal link–Which does not help a user to navigate the site.
Always Audit your Internal Link with Google Search Console–You can go to “Link,” and from there you can see Top linked page.
You should put links at the beginning of the page–It will reduce your Bounce Rate and improve your dwell time. I have already explained many times how will these two factors help you rank high. So one or two internal links you can put in the beginning.
An internal link should be do-follow link—Some plugins automatically create internal links as no-follow. You check that before publishing the post.
Do not use Automation for internal link Building–Do not use any tool. It will create so many exact match anchor texts, which is spam.
Try to Add Internal link to Your Old page–Yes, Your old pages will get benefit a lot with this.
Add Internal link in the main body of your content (no in a footer or sidebar)
What should be ideal Keyword Density?
QUOTE: “KEYWORD DENSITY’ is simply a PERCENTAGE value of the NUMBER OF TIMES a KEYWORD or KEY PHRASE appears on a WEB PAGE compared to the TOTAL AMOUNT OF WORDS on the page.” WIKI
Those days have been gone when people stuff keywords all the way and able to rank higher.
Google also becomes smart like you.
Google keeps improving its algorithm and trying to learn more about user behavior on your blog.
With that behavior, it analyses the Quality of your article and then ranks accordingly.
Google suggests that you should write your article in Natural flow.
There is no Ideal percentage for Keyword density, but it should come naturally to your blog.
Check this video from Matt Cutts from google about the Myth of Keyword Density.
So, focus more on writing good content with proper page structure.
What should be ideal be the length of my blog post?

Google understand that you are giving more values to your user if the length of your blog is higher.

- The longer post gets an average of 77.2% more links than shorter content.2.
- Content longer than 3000 words receives an average of 77.2% more referring domain links than content shorter than 1000 words.
Ok, now your question should be–
Ok, I got that my content should be over 1950 but exactly how much?
Well, for this, I have my formula.
Check for that keyword for top 3 search result.
Pick the result which has the most word count.
If Word count is < 2000;
Write your blog post-2000 words long.
If a blog post is >2000;
Then add 10% more to the competitor blog post.
E.g. if the competitor has 3000 words long.
Then yours would be at least 3000+300 = 3300 words.
Long and detailed contents is a very important On-Page SEO techniques
